DESCRIPTION
In 2017 Furr created this brightly painted perch - a freshwater fish native to Europe and North Asia. The perch sits on a Queens Green Solian ware soho plate with half a lime and is set against a neutral grey background.
"My friend Steve caught this majestic fish in Twickenham. I collected it on the same day and painted in my then studio in Ham. Because it was so fresh I was able to see the colours at their most vivid. I chose the plate with its green and gilded stripe and the lime to pick out the green tones I saw in the perch"
Furr's fish still lives began in 1992 with ‘Red Mullet and lemon’. The early work features the fish on a salcombe porcelaind dinner plate with half a lemon and a brown background.
